Grade 5-9 When the powerful Orb of Ra transforms Rex Mason into the Element Man, he loses his good looks but gains the ability to will himself into any chemical form. Now a walking chemistry set, Mason decides to use his powers for good, calling himself Metamorpho. First published in the 1960s, much of this is atomic-age kitsch. Characters say marv and fab and dig the Beatles, and Metamorpho's meticulous explanations of his chemical transformations often turn episodes into post-Sputnik-era science lessons. These anachronisms may not matter to younger readers, who should enjoy the fast-paced plots and detailed black-and-white drawings.
