This U.S. Navy admiral reformed and modernized this branch of the services; twice president of the U.S. Naval College in Newport, Rhode Island, he commanded all U.S. naval forces in Europe during World War One; his account of that experience, "The Vistory at Sea," won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1921. Bold signature in black ink on a 6½" X 7 3/4" sheet of his "Naval Station, Narragansett Bay / Newport, Rhode Island" imprinted stationery, n.y. Very good. Single horizontal fold.
