About this Item

This American architectural engineer, author, intellectual and all-around Renaissance Man is best remembered for developing the geodesic dome. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Charleston, South Carolina on 12 September 1970 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 6-cent "South Carolina 1670-1970" stamp at upper right. At left has been affixed a color 3" X 3" magazine stock artist's rendering of a Fuller building (a massive cube half-buried point down among green fields). To the right of this, just below the postal cancellation, Fuller signs bold and large in his usual green fineline. Fuller contributed the futuristic United States Pavilion design for Expo '67 in Greenfield, South Carolina, hence the relevance of his signature on this item. Small portion of original transmittal envelope also present. A scarce signature on a unique item. Accompanied by a superb 8" X 10" glossy photograph, a well-known later life half-length portrait showing "Bucky" in suit and tie holding a small model of a geodesic dome.
