Title: Signed Postal Cover.
Signed: Signed by Author(s)
Known as "Slammin' Sammy," this pro golfer had over 100 career wins, including three PGA titles; he also authored several golf titles; elected to the PGA Hall of Fame in 1974. Signed Postal Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Hot Springs, Virginia, on 27 May 1973. Block of four 2-cent "National Parks Centennial" stamps (depicting Cape Hatteras National Seashore) at upper right. NOT a First Day Cover, but instead an enterprising collector had this envelope cancelled in Snead's hometown (Hot Springs) on his birthday (May 27)! No distracting recipient's name/address, but "Slammin' Sammy" signs large and bold in black ballpoint near the "sweet spot." Quite attractive. Comes with small portion of original transmittal envelope. Bookseller Inventory # 22371
