7 x 4 1/2 paper, excellent condition. Dated December 2, 1905. Ion Perdicaris (1840-1925) was a wealthy Greek-American, best known for being the victim of a kidnapping in 1904. He and his stepson were kidnapped in Morroco by bandits loyal to Mulai Ahmed er Raisuni, who demanded ransom from the sultan of Morroco. President Theodore Roosevelt sent warships to try to intimidate the sultan into paying the ransom. His strong response to this crisis helped Roosevelt to win the Republican nomination for President that year. Perdicaris and his stepson were released unharmed. This contract states that, for the sum of $75, Perdicaris gives the rights to an article he has written, "The Arab as Neighbor, Friend and Servant" to the Perry Mason Company of Boston, Massachusetts.
