About this Item

"It all began in 1929, at the end of the roaring 20s, when the ballroom called the Silver Dome was built. Four Keller brothers acquired a paten for the arch-style roof, and along with hired carpenter Cornel Moen, they decided they wanted the ballroom curved, which compounded the difficulties of the diamond-shaped lamella truss ceiling.Once the Silver Dome's popularity became known, people from Minnesota and Illinois would be drawn to the famed ballroom. These early years of the ballroom's life included waltzes, polkas, schottisches and other type of dances. As the decades passes, new sounds of rock 'n roll and country in the 1960s and 1970s would clash with the Silver Dome's past. The following years would be a slow era for the ballroom. Towards the end of the century, the once proud ballroom would slowly fall into dormancy and obscurity until a man with a new vision for the Silver Dome would bring it back to life. The Silver Dome would outlive every decade of music, like an ageless bneauty waiting.content now to seem to fill its dance floor with matrons who reminisce of their day when the Silver Dome was as young as they were."
