Venice: [Apud Cominum de Tridino Montisferrati], 1557. [xcix], 382, [1] ff. Main text in parallel columns. Octavo (7" x 5"). Contemporary limp vellum with lapped edges, faint early hand-lettered title to spine. Light rubbing to extremities, negligible soiling. Attractive woodcut head piece and printer device to title page, woodcut decorated initials, with eight portraits of authors at the head of each essay. Light toning to text, a bit of soiling to title page, internally clean. $1,850. * First edition. This is an anthology of essays on Roman, canon and local Italian law. Its centerpiece is Pontano's essay, a classic study of Roman law that was often reprinted. The other authors are Antonio Corsetti, Matteo Mattesillani, Francesco Cremense, Pietro Gerardo de Petrasancta, Gulielmo de Ludo, Amanellus de Claris Aquis, Paulus de Castro and Joannes de Arnono. This book had a second edition in 1558. A similar title was published in 1556 edited by Gabriel Sarayna. All three are scarce; OCLC locates no copies in North America.
