About this Item

Small 8vo. 208p. Includes wood engraved frontispiece of the author (with a reproduction of his signature). Bound in publisherís brown cloth; some rubbing to outer board edges. Pages are generally clean, but with a couple of light corner creases and an occasional faint spot of marginal foxing. Corner tip neatly repaired (p.99); miniscule tear in upper margin of several pages. The front free end paper carries a lightly penciled inscription. Luther Boutelle was an American Millerite preacher and an early leader in the emerging Advent Christian Church. Boutelleís autobiography describes his involvement with the abolitionist movement. He lived for a time in Groton Massachusetts where he was a member of Benjamin Hallís millennial "Community." His home offered shelter to runaway slaves and received guests such as William Lloyd Garrison and Frederick Douglas. In his later life he describes a number of cases of supposed divine healing.
