About this Item

Stated first edition. Ink inscription by author on second leaf: 'For Robert Lee' , who was then one of the owners of the New Era Bookstore in Baltimore and a member of the Communist Party. Harkey, a white publisher and journalist in Mississippi, was the target of several hate crimes for his anti-segregationist views, one of which was a burning cross on his lawn. These events are the basis for this book, which also became the subject of a documentary film. Book very good with waterstains at foreedge (only), edgewear to cover. A unique copy and extremely rare. 207 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 14102
