About this title

A 56-page narrative in verse. The three self-contained sections bring an American man from a World War II Detroit childhood, to Detroit's ruin, and from there to visions of Canadian wilderness and episodes of the Korean War. By way of an exile's reminiscence, he makes his way back to an epiphany of Detroit, not only still intact, but transcendent.

About the Author:

Professor Emeritus in Classical Studies in the University of Alberta, Richard Braun received his doctorate from the University of Texas and his first two degrees from the University of Michigan. He was born on Saint Cecilia's Day, 1934. He is best known for his extremely popular translation of Sophocles' Antigone. Other books of his original verse composition still in print are Children Passing, Bad Land, and Last Man In. Translations still in print include versions of Euripides' Rhesos and of Persius' Satires.
