About this title

Synopsis:

Book by Goodsell, Charles T.

From Library Journal:

This book reflects upon the physical settings of North American city council chambers (nearly all in the United States) constructed since 1865. It interprets spatial composition, interior decoration, and furnishings, using a variety of methodologies including Structuralism, social psychology, environmental psychology, and simple functional analysis over three periods: Traditional (1865-1920); Midcentury (1920-60); and Contemporary (1960-present). A far more exhaustive text than William Lebovich's America's City Halls (Preservation Pr., 1984), which is much more of a standard architectural survey. Peter Kaufman, Suffolk Community Coll. Libs., Selden, N.Y.
