About this Item

Clark & Hofeline, Book Printers, LA. "A highly reliable, even-tempered account of the war in Virginia by a member of the famed Washington Artillery; especially good for camp scenes" - Nevins. This work was later expanded and issued in 1875 as "Military Record of Louisiana." Virtually two books in one, the first is the Soldier s Story then pages are renumberd for a Louisiana Adjutant Generals report of state tropps and a series of short stories/rembrances finsh the book. An important and scarce journal of military life during the Civil War. Good copy of the first edition. Boards and endpages have some wrinkling. Foxing scattered on pages throughout. Front cover says "A Story of the War by a Louisiana Soldier" in gilt letters with crossed cannon tubes, gilt is faded. Bookseller Inventory # 43831
