Octagonal keepsake, sometimes called a "Rose" or a "Tray", with views on sixteen "petals", and the name, "The London Basket" on a label in the center. N.d., circa 1900. Closed, 8.5 cm across, opening up to be about 23 cm across if fully pushed down -- but as a "basket", it generally won't lay this way. The petals have round cameo illustrations of the famous sights of London of the day, some of which are no more. Sights include the Tower, the Aquarium, the central meat market, Trafalgar Square, the Guildhall, the Temple Bar, the Marble Arch, Saint Paul's Cathedral, Leicester Square, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Exchange, the Albert Memorial, the Mansion House, the House of Parliament, Albert Hall, the Monument (the Nelson column?). On a textured, brown card stock. Bookseller Inventory #
