Title: The Soviets At Work; Labor (Labour) ...
Publisher: Charles H Kerr, Et Al
Book Condition: Good
Book Description Charles H Kerr, Et Al, 1918. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Consists of all the above mentioned titles, bound complete (without covers, with the exception of "Labor Scrapbook" and "Nation", which have both front and rear covers present) into contemporary 5x7 inch red cloth. Very good. Previous owner's signature and list of titles, with prices paid, on front endpapers, the signature and "#8" on the title page of each, marginalia and/or underlining (in pencil) on a half dozen or so pages of "Marxism and Darwinism", which has a 1x2 1/4 inch piece cut off the title page (text unaffected) and a 3 inch piece torn off lower corner of one leaf, with loss, paper age yellowed, a few stray smudges, otherwise all are tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked. Among the rarer treasures in this potpourri are "Labor, Nationality and Religion", the uncommon 1918 American edition published by the James Connolly Socialist Club which was founded that year by James (Big Jim) Larkin, "The Need of the Socialist Party" by Charles Sehl, published by the Reading branch of the Pennsylvania State Office of the Socialist Party, and the quite scarce first issue of "The Labor Scrap Book", something of a Reader's Digest magazine of the left, including Helen Keller's "In Behalf of the IWW" originaly published in the March 1918 edition of the "The Liberator"; after second issue it was barred from the mails, and soon ceased publication. The last title, in Ukrainian, was published by the Robitnyk Publishing and Printing Co of New York, 1918, and seems to be a collection of poetry. History; political science; social justice; socialism; communism; Bolshevism; Wobblies; Industrial Workers of the World; radicalism; World War I; ephemera; Russian Revolution.
