Ben Johnson seemed to explode out of the blocks as if boosted by powerful hidden springs. He immediately opened a sizable gap on the field that he never relinquished. Carl Lewis was second, a good 5 feet behind. He was in line for a repeat gold medal in that event but had to wait a few days when Johnson was stripped of his medal because of steroid use. I had never seen anybody before or since with a such an amazingly fast reaction time to the gun. A very thorough behind-the-scenes story told by Johnson's and the Canadian Olympic team coach Charlie Francis. A fast read of a faster runner that takes off as you open the book!.
