His book explains the parts played by Detroiters in promoting powerboat racing and, as could be expected, chiefly concerns the legendary Gar Wood and Harmsworth Racing. The book does not attempt to be technical but rather dramatizes much of what went on behind the scenes in the laboratories, the boat wells, and the smoking rooms where the men of speed-boating planned and plotted the races which attracted as many as 250,000 spectators to the shores of the Detroit river for a single race...
