Dark-grey cloth with black lettering and decoration. 100 x 144 x 20mm. 288pp. Cover a little rubbed on edges and corners, and significantly darkened; inner hinges loose, rear endpaper torn; pages browned on edges, musty, and with various small marks in pencil and ink (mainly marking off the sections studied); all text legible, however; binding generally rather loose, with a few pages detached towards rear; pp.265-66 (one leaf) - apparently missing - is found later in the volume, seemingly bound or repaired in the wrong place. A volume which clearly shows its age, but still offers a fascinating glimpse into many aspects of the English language, which for the most part are still quite relevant today.
