Pp. xiii, 171+ 21 full page halftone lithographed plates, each with a descriptive leaf of text. Publisher's original pale green printed wrappers, in custom-made orange cloth-covered slipcase, lettered in white on the spine, 8vo. This work was edited by Edward Burgess, with additional notes and descriptions by James H. Emerton. Occasional Papers of the Boston Society of Natural History, volume 2. This is the first major monograph on American Spiders. The author, Nicholas Hentz, pioneered the study of North American spiders. Single ink stamp of the library of the biological laboratories, Harvard University on the front wrapper, no other library marks and few signs of use; many pages are unopened along top edge. A rare work seldom offered. Light repairs made to spine to strengthen signatures, a few tiny chips to the other edges of the wrappers; a tight and clean copy in very good condition.
