Monogramme in gilt on front boards, gilt tooled spine. 165pp. frontispiece, portrait, ills., incl. potraits on 7 photo plates, illustrated newspaper clipping pasted on verso of hftitle, folio-sized press-clipping with coloured illustrations, incl. portraits loosely inserted, taken from a dutch daily "De Telegraaf", Saturday, October 23th, 2004, being a review of an apology about the General, written by his widowed wife.WITH ANOTHER PRESS CLIPPING, a 3pp. illustrated essay by Frederik Willems, published in a dutch dauly, NRC-Handelsblad, 24 November 2013 in which contents of a Top-secret document is discussed about the role of the general and Captain Westerling is revealed: the formation of the general of a secret intelligence information group, not known by his staff officers, the deals with the indonesian rebel organizations the Dar'ul Islam and Bambu Runcing, supported by [dutch] money and arms, countering the T.N.I. and indonesian anti-dutch guerilla groups, his protection of Captain Westerling, a tough commander, whose picture of a war-criminal has to be revised, all withoug any knowledge of Spoor's Staff officers and military and civil authorities. All very hush hush, lessening the pressure on dutch regular troops in 1948, could have changed the outcome of the dutch-indonesian armed dispute 1945-1950, the organization collapsed after the untimely death of the CinC, General S.H. Spoor. Loosely inserted. Describes the life and times of Lt. General S.H. Spoor, Commander-in-Chief of the dutch expeditionary force in post-war Indonesia, during the dutch-indonesian [armed] dispute, 1945-1950, up till his untimely death by heartattack in 1949. Good copy.
