Synopsis: Sociology is central to the study of sports in higher education. This textbook provides students in sports education with an introduction to the subject that is concise, comprehensive, and accessible. It gives readers a grounding in core sociological themes — such as power, diversity, and mediation — and relates them to contemporary social issues, such as commercialization and globalization. Special emphasis is given to examples drawn from the UK and the significance of the 2012 Olympics. With exercises designed to promote active learning, together with guidance on further reading, this book provides students with an ideal reader-friendly introduction.
