About this Item

London: Edward Arnold, 1897. Illustrated by P. Chenevix Trench. Octavo, bound in half parchment and marbled boards, with leather spine label, and top edge gilt. Pp. xviii, 306. pages, illustrated. Parchment soiled, but still a very good copy. Slightly condensed version of a work first published in 1840 in two volumes as "A Sportsman In Ireland With His Summer Route Through The Highlands Of Scotland." The material left out included the Scottish portion of the work, as well as ecclesiastical and political matters not relevant to hunting or fishing. An interesting book on Ireland as well as sport fishing. Contains much on salmon and trout angling throughout Ireland, by a sportsman who ".contented himself with such accomodation as he could find among the humble inns and farmhouses, varied occasionally by hospitality freely offered by the poorer gentry and clergy of the west." (the Introduction). Bookseller Inventory # 11278
