The first edition binding is usually of blue cloth, but this copy has printed boards [about 5" x 7.25"] with the red background spine and front board/panel probably copied from the corresponding portions of the regular first edition Dust Wrapper but with the rear board/panel blank white], 222 pages [text block measures about 4.75" x 7" x 5/8"]. There is a vertical strip of white cloth tape re-inforcement to each hinge with binding threads sewn through the tape. The title page bears a 1963 date and the copyright page has "(copyright symbol) Victor Gollancz Limited 1963" at the top with no indication of any subsequent impression/printing underneath. Edgar and Gold Dagger Award winning novel.
