Synopsis

During her years at stage school Carolyn Mapledon had concentrated on training to be a dancer. She knew she was good; and so it was a great blow to learn that she could not continue her chosen career simply because she had grown too tall. To become a teacher rather than a performer seemed a poor alternative.

Even so, her friends Roger and Phoebe found 'the beanpole' reluctant to commit herself to trying a new course in the theatre: acting. Her confidence had been well and truly shattered. But their warm and gentle persuasion finally won her over, and a summer of hard work began with all the preparations, training and rehearsals for a season of open air performances in London's parks.

Although her role in the play was small, Carolyn had more than enough to cope with in the way of production work - and of clashing personalities.
