About this Item

0816013462 Text copyright 1986 by W. Raife Wellsted. Maps copyright 1986 by John Flower. Published by Facts on File Publications. Written by W. Raife Wellsted and Stuart Rossiter. Introduction by the American Phiatelic Society. Like new hardcover. Very good dust jacket as issued. The dust jacket has very light shelf wear but there some scuffs and punctures at the top and bottom of the back strip. The boards don't have any shelf or edge wear, the pages are clean and free of rips and creases, the binding is tight, and the pictures are still clear and vibrant. 0816013462. Packaged using bubble wrap and a sturdy cardboard box. Tracking number provided for no extra cost. Thank you for supporting our small town, family owned book store. About this title

Shows stamps from around the world, describes the history of stamp production in each country, and includes background information about each nation

From Library Journal:

A highly specialized work directed toward the serious philatelist, this successfully merges two rather disparate areaspostal history and political geography. The book provides a clear geographic portrayal for virtually every distinct postal and political change, from as early as 1660 to 1984. Emphasis is placed on the post-1840 period, as adhesive postage stamps were invented in that year. For dedicated stamp collectors and postal historians, the volume is a welcome addition. One notices strengths in the coverage of both British and French colonial activity in Africa and Asia. Despite the 144 carefully drawn and accurate maps, the inclusion of a large number of superfluous illustrations adds little to the work. Nonetheless, this is recommended for large public libraries, as well as those institutions with a philatelically oriented patronage. William B. Martin, Upsala College Library, Sussex, N.J.

Store Description

Bailey's Bibliomania is a small, used & new bookstore located in the Historic Downtown District of Ellensburg, Washington. We opened the brick and mortar portion of our business in January of 2006. We previously listed books on Abebooks for several years until an accident caused us to take a long break in our business. During that hiatus we also moved our store causing us to decide to start our inventory listings anew. In our inventory we have many thousands of great books that will be listed here on AbeBooks. We have a very eclectic inventory and tend to focus on those books that are unique in some aspect, leaving the popular titles to be sold in our physical store. We strive to rank and describe each book carefully so that buyers know exactly what they are ordering. Please visit us often as we grow here! Thanks for visiting! Mary & John, Owners
