About this Item

Harper and Row, NY, 1947. First Edition, First Printing. Cullen is the poet famous for the lines "Yet do I marvel at this curious / thing/ To make a poet black and bid him / sing!". This book includes a magnificent collection of previously published poems plus some that were new at the time, all chosen by the author himself. The book itself is in good condition, except that the DJ has become stuck to the cover in two places on the lower 2 inches. It is unclear what made this happen, but it has also caused white marks to the black cover in the same area. The DJ itself is in poor condition, with several tears and a large 2" x 2" chip on the upper left had side of the front, extending around the spine. I will gladly send scans upon request.
