About the Book

Bibliographic Details

Title: The Starcrossed

Publisher: Chilton Book Co., Radnor, PA.

Publication Date: 1975

Binding: Cloth

Book Condition: Very Fine

Dust Jacket Condition: Fine

Edition: First Edition

Very fine 1st. edition, almost like new in very light yellow/green tinted cream cloth boards, brown printing on spine. Glossy pictorial dust jacket is lightly foxed along top and bottom edges, otherwise very fine with one tiny corner bump, minor marks and rubs, no chips or tears. Overall, book is in excellent condition. Roughly patterned on events and characters involved in the short TV series "The Starlost" created by Harlan Ellison. 3D television is more than entertainment, it's proof that what goes on the screen to-day are re-runs from to-morrow. Played out accross the perfumed-smog-filled valleys of Southern California to ever frumpy 21st. century Toronto, a brilliant plot disintigrates in the hands of the rich and foolish. Synopsis: A stinging SFnal, futuristic satire on the TV industry, based on Ben's and Harlan Ellison's involvement in a real TV series, THE STARLOST. (Bova dedicates the novel to "Cordwainer Bird", the pen name Harlan Ellison uses when he does not want to be associated with a television or film project.) Television in the 21st century, where ratings are everything... Physicist Bill Oxford has just developed a device that can make the networks even more powerful, and now he is caught in the most vicious battle of the future: the ratings war! Harlan's script won a major award (though his script isn't what was filmed!); and ReAnimus Press has the novel edition of his award-winning version (PHOENIX WITHOUT ASHES). A delightful bit of fun in the future, poking fun at those who should be poked.
