About this Item

A clean, sound copy of this small press book, a fictionalized account of conflict in Northern Ireland in the 1960's, based on the author's own experiences. There are no signs of prior use. The jacket has light wear at two corners, but is otherwise excellent. A mylar Brodart cover now protects it. Bookseller Inventory # 21252

About this title

Synopsis:

I first read this book when serving with airborne forces in the late 1980,s. This is the follow on from the authors first book They stood in the door, both books capture the gritty and sometimes black humour of the British soldier, and give the reader an insight into life within the airborne forces in the 60,s and 70,s, both on operations and within the garrison town of Aldershot. Iwould thoroughly recommend both books to anyone with an interest in airborne forces.

Review:

I first read this book after a friend I used to serve with in the British Airborne Forces recommended it. All I can say is that as a "tom"(private soldier) in the Parachute regiment it is as true to life as you'll ever come, without actually serving with the regiment, from the charcters to the story, it's exactly what sort of thing the "tom's" get up to in battalion life. It's a story that will make you cry with laughter, but also has very sobering moments, a masterpiece of a book, that should be bought immeadatly if the chance ever arises!! --By MR DARYL J PARRY

He writes it as it is. I was there I know, it's hard to mix the reality of mil life and natural humour --By J Shelling

the book is a good sequel.follow-on to "They stood in the Door". I would recommend both, especially if you are military of ex military. --By D. E. Middleton
