About this Item

First edition, stated; first printing, full number line (2-9 for Random House). Laid in is a promo letter from Richard Nixon on his letterhead (26 Federal Plaza, New York City), dated November 19, 1984, addressed to Mr. Joseph P. Flannery, President, Uniroyal Incorporated, Oxford Management & Research, Middlebury, CT 06749. The letter urges Flannery "to take time from your busy schedule to read the copy I am enclosing with this letter"; letter is signed by former president Nixon in blue ink at the end of the letter. Letter is stamped in the top right corner, "Received / Nov 21 1984 / J. P. Flannery." Nixon felt that Phillips's first book, "The Emerging Republican Majority," played a role in identifying a winning strategy for the 1968 election, and is obviously doing Phillips a favor here by plugging his latest book with a few letters to key industrial leaders. Book is tight, square, and unmarked; corners sharp, spine ends unbumped; the dust jacket is not price-clipped (original price $15.95); crease to bottom of front panel. Laid-in letter signed by Nixon is Mylar-protected; dust jacket is Brodart protected. Bookseller Inventory # 003020
