Limited Editions Club edition of Hesse's novel of a divided spirit searching for illumination, here with the text translated by Basil Creighton, the translation revised by Joseph Mileck and Horst Frenz, and the work illustrated with woodcuts by Helmut Ackermann. This is => numbered copy 1063 of 1600 printed, signed at the colophon by the artist. The volume was designed by Max Caflisch, set in monotype Emerson and printed by A. Colish on Curtis Colophon paper, and bound by the Tapley-Rutter company in quarter black "grained cowhide" (resembling morocco) with gray buckram sides. Folio (29.7 cm, 11.75"). ix, [1], 181, [3] pp.; illus. Bibliography of the Fine Books Published by the Limited Editions Club, 504.
