About this Item

(LOUSIANA REGIMENTAL). HALL, Winchester. The Story of the 26th Louisiana Infantry in the Service of the Confederate States. [N.P., ca. 1890]. 1st ed. [8], 228, [2]pp. Map. Orig. cloth. With the bookplate of the Illinois MOLOUS, else a very good or better copy of a scarce Confederate regimental. HOWES H-92. "This narrative merits consideration for both reliability and travel comments. Written twenty years after the war without benefit of a diary or other material, it contains few improbable personal details and most observations appear to be accurate. .the travels described here were not extensive, being entirely in Mississippi and Louisiana, except for one or two trips to Richmond. The captain first led his unit to Berwick Bay but was soon on his way to help defend New Orleans. After the fall of that city, he proceeded by rail to Vicksburg by way of Jackson. He was in Vicksburg at its fall and was paroled." Coulter-208. "A fairly reliable narrative of the war in Mississippi and Louisiana, although it was written without benefit of wartime letters or diary." Nevins I, p.99. Bookseller Inventory # 55767
