He fought in the eastern campaigns including the Peninsula Campaign, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Antietam, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, Five Forks and Saylorís Creek. Includes a Roster of Co D. After the war Johnston beacme a lawyer, judge and congressman from West Virginia. Good copy of the first edition with no dust jacket. Ex-lib, this copy was a gift from historian Henry Steele Commanger to the Harold F. Johnson Library at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. Paper call letters still on spine and some type of sticker has been removed from the upper left on the front cover. Harder to find first edition. 379 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 27963
