Synopsis: In Daniel Gallik s first novel, Billy, a child with multiple disabilities attempts to understand his complicated world in the tough Buckeye neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, during the 1950s. Billy s parents, George and Ann, are blue-collar people with problems of their own. The tempered, unspoken belief within their family is that the strong shall survive. Bad things happen to Billy and his family as they try to get by in an era when children with disabilities are tormented by their classmates and labeled retarded. Billy doesn t want anyone to think that his story ends badly or that anyone bears any fault concerning their own destinies.
