A complete four volume hardcover set bound in navy blue cloth. A brief return to inscription on front endpages of volumes two and four, with another inscription on title page of volume two. Text is otherwise unmarked on warmly toned pages with heavy foxing present throughout and decorated endpages. Numerous illustrations throughout, including maps, plates, portraits. Bindings are sound and intact with split hinges that remain securely attached. Blue cloth shows severe insect damage to surfaces, but corners remain pointed with gilt tilting on spines. Some minor damp stains on first few pages of volume four with a small white paint stain on spine. Due to size and weight, price of shipping is subject to change.
