About this Item

Busch, who was recruited to start writing for the fledgling Time magazine while still at Princeton, ended up as a war correspondent and then editor at Life magazine, and resumed writing biographical profiles for Reader's Digest after retiring to Millbrook, N.Y. He wrote a biography of Adlai Stevenson, as well as "Winter Quarters: George Washington and the Continental Army at Valley Forge" and "The Emperor's Sword: Japan vs. Russia in the Battle of Tsushima." This book is dated to the dedication page Millbrook, July 30, 1963, inscribed "and for my dear mother with much love," and signed "Noel," first name only. Book was once damp along spine and bottom quadrant of boards, and came to us with the dust jacket partially adhered. Jacket was painstakingly removed and is now intact in Brodart protector, but "good-plus" book retains some white adhesions along bottoms of boards, while the jacket itself (though not price clipped) grades "fair" with considerably sun-fading to spine, some noticeable chips, and dampstaining to bottom of rear panel. So: The condition is disappointing, but still a unique copy signed to the author's mother. 346 pp. including index. Reduced from $45. Bookseller Inventory # 002456
