Description:

No pagination; title page states "Strange Newes From China: A First Chinese Cookery Book by Townley Searle with 101 Rare and Choice Chinese Recipes and Decorations by the Author". No date on title page or copyright page. No date indicated anywhere. Presumed First Edition using Bill McBrides guide to the I.D. of First Editions. Last page of book index states: "Printed in Great Britain at the Burleigh Press, Lewin's Mead, Bristol". This book is cleverly designed and is festooned with B&W drawings and very amusing section titles. The front and back endpapers are a multi-colored kaleidoscope of what looks like stylized billiard balls set on palm fronds. Unlike anything I have seen. Try cooking Jun Min Tong (plain noodle soup) and Tou Fu Gai Pin Tong (bean curd and sliced chicken soup). Did you know "The Chinese god of the kitchen is Chang and he has to render account to Tao Tien Yai, the god of jade and of the sky"? Learn more. BUY this book NOW! At the end of the book there are the following sections: "One Encyclopedia", "One Appendix", "One Pronouncement", and "One Faithful Index". Bookseller Inventory #
