About this Item

10" x 6.5". 143pp. Bound in green flexible buckram. Mild wear and rubbing, many friendship inscriptions and signatures, some internal soiling; else vg+ condition. This very uncommon high school annual contains Betty MacDonald's senior picture as Betsy Bard. Betty was the beloved author of The Egg & I, Onions in the Stew, Mrs. Piggle - Wiggle, and other widely read and admired classics. While Betty did not sign or inscribe this annual, her nice senior picture shows the cheerful smile and bobbed hair-do that her fans will recognize in an instant. Some years ago an up and coming Washington state novelist sneered at an interviewer's suggestion that Betty may have been an influence on him. He retorted with some snide comment about how "my books are taught in college courses." We found that quite humorous considering the fact that Betty's books have sold many times more copies than that Guter-snipe's probably ever will. In any case, this book is an interesting snapshot of Seattle life in the 1920's. Bookseller Inventory # 24434
