About this title

Book by McLain, Denny, Nahrstedt, Mike

From Library Journal:

A not very edifying cautionary tale about an athlete who had it alltwo Cy Young awards, and a 31-win sea son with the Detroit Tigersand blew it. After his baseball career (briefly described here) was overin part because of his gambling McLain became a business wheeler- dealer. A zealous prosecutor charged him with racketeering and dope-deal ing, and let any number of serious crooks (he says) go free in order to get them to testify against him in court. McLain tells here about his tri al (a conviction subsequently over turned) and his time in prison. While the legal system was grossly at fault, it is also clear that McLain is an ex tremely unappetizing sort. More for students of the legal system than for sports fans.Marylaine Block, St. Ambrose Univ. Lib., Davenport, Ia.
