**A laid in original drawing by the artist/ writer John Groth** (check photos.) The book is in fine - condition.\, whistle-clean inside, unmarked, and has stiff two-toned (orange/beige white) clothe-covered boards with brilliant gilt titles, binding is stiff and has minute soiling, boards are without edge-wear. The dj is complete and attractive and only suffers from some edge-wear (Tiny chipping along bottom edge and a little edge-wear at head and foot of spine and corners. This incredible book is filled with Groth's descriptive and lively drawings made while he was an artist/correspondent reporting on the Korean War. "Now (1952), from many months spent in the war-torn ever exotic East, he has collated his experiences and sketches for a new, even more beautiful book, 'Studio : Asia ', illustrated lavishly with superb drawings in the inimitable Groth style." Born in Chicago in 1908. John Garth studied iat the Chicago Art Institute and the Art Students League in New York. He is a teacher at the Art Students League, became the first art director for Esquire Magazine, and later served as art director for Parade magazine. He has traveled extensively through Europe and Central America, Canary Islands, Japan and the Far East. The Chicago Sun Syndicate and Parade sent him overseas as a war correspondent during WW II, where he met Ernest Hemingway in Sept. 1944. They became friends, and when Hemingway's 'Men Without Women was published in an illustrated edition, John Groth did the drawings and introduction for the book." -- back of dj flap. He has illustrated 'The Grapes of Wrath' Exodus, and his own 'Studio : Europe.
