A book dedicated to helping those who have suffered emotional wounds from trauma. Whether the cause was intentional or accidental, trauma leaves psychological wounds that may be more debilitating than any of the obvious physical injuries.

Through the real life accounts of six trauma survivors, the success of early intervention and specific educational tutorials are presented. Based on the work of pioneer Clinical Trauamatologist, Barry M. Richards, this book will help not only the survivor, but also those who care for them. Following the timeless principles presented along with cutting-edge scientific principles, the long-term consequences of post-traumatic emotional problems can be averted and true healing can take place.

About the Author:

F.Ross Woolley, Ph.D., is a behavioral epidemiologist. His wife and co-author Susan Woolley, BSN, RNC, MPH a respected perinatal nursing specialist, lived through the horror of a murder-hostage situation that including delivering a baby in the midst of the chaos. These two health care professionals were absolutely unprepared for the emotional aftermath and the disruption to thier lives caused by this traumatic event. Dr. Woolley, well known in the field of preventive medicine and public health, became convinced that there had to be a way to prevent the desructive effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Using their research and writing experience and working collaboratively with Clincal Traumatologist, Barry M. Richards, the Woolleys, parents of five children, set about the task of telling how the emotional upheaval that nearly destroyed their marriage of 30 years could have been minimized had they known how to apply the principles of clinical traumatology. Using the real-life stories of six survivors who had the benefit of Richard's approach, they have added these to their own experience and education to write this book. It is for those who are now, or will become survivors of trauma and those who are their caregivers, whether family and friend or clinician seeking answers.
