First edition. Letterpress broadside measuring 13 x 9 inches and published in January 2002 to celebrate the publication of Oliver's book What Do We Know. The broadside is inscribed by Oliver at Christmas, 2001 to fellow Provincetown artist, the painter Pat de Groot and her beloved German Shepard, Atisha. Painting in her home on the harbor in Provincetown, Pat de Groot experiences the everchanging appearance of the light on water. Her paintings are very much about that time, that particular place and day, and all the various moods and energies that nature displays. Yet, these are not illusionistic precious renderings. They are very much about paint and process. They are about recording these moments of life. Each one on each day requiring its own marks or approach. John Yau, writing about de Groot's work sums it up this way: "Looking, these paintings tell the viewer, is about letting go, about recognizing that one's passage toward chaos is unavoidable. Best to celebrate one's passage through time. Best to both greet and bid farewell to every moment." de Groot's paintings are reproduced on the covers of Mary Oliver's British editions published by Bloodaxe Books. The broadside is archivally matted and framed and is in excellent condition. A marvelous association between these two iconic Provincetown artists. Bookseller Inventory #
