From Publishers Weekly:
Much intrigue and suspense involving the succession to the double crown of ancient Egypt mark this eighth novel of Moyra Caldecott (Guardians of the Tall Stones. Sothis, a young religious mystic, breaks away from the conservative established priesthood and joins forces with Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV), the son and heir of the current ruler. On his father's death, Akhenaten and his beautiful but ruthless queen, Nefertiti, attempt to impose a form of monotheism on the countrygoing so far as to move the capital city, which will embody this new religion. With oracular powers that make him a perfect foil for the priests of Amun, Sothis is caught in a web of lies and deceit. As a historical writer, Caldecott cannot be compared to such masters of the genre as Mary Stewart and Mary Renault. The historical and mythological context is so sketchily explained and so unfamiliar that the general reader will not be able to identify with the central characters. Those interested in mysticism and the spiritual may like this book, however.
