Description:

Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises". Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1928. First edition, third printing. The book measures 5" x 7 3/8", 259 pages. A brand new facsimile (reproduction) dust jacket is included for protection and display. The book is in very good to very good plus condition. Minor rubbing and wear to the boards. The spine is lightly sunned with two vertical creases extending down the toned label. The gold label on the front board is clear and intact. A ding extends across the fore-edge of the textblock. The binding is starting. Previous bookstore's sticker on the rear paste-down. The contents are gently toned but clean. "The Sun Also Rises" is the first major novel written by Ernest Hemingway. Published in 1926, the novel was recognized as a major modern piece of literature and established Hemingway's status as a literary figure. "The Sun Also Rises" is about a group of American expatriates who live in Paris and travel to Pamplona, Spain to watch the bullfights. Based largely on Hemingway and his friends, deemed "The Lost Generation", which included writers, artists, and poets, the novel is a reflection on the group and the specific relationships and dynamics within it. On the surface, the novel is the love story between protagonist Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley, a divorcee and temptress. Within the course of the novel, though, Lady Brett manages to seduce a string of men, causing tensions to run high with bitter jealousy. It is a story of unrequited love, lust, envy, beauty, and seedy ugliness. One of Hemingway's most important works, "The Sun Also Rises" is an American classic.
