About this Item

NY: Scribner's Sons, 1926. First edition, first issue with "stoppped" p.181:26. Bound and signed by N.Y. binder Jack Fitterer in full indigo calf with leather inlays of a bull (brown & tan) facing a matador s cape (red with maroon under-shadows) which swirls across the spine to the rear panel where it rises to meet a large (yellow) sun rising above what now appears to be the hilly terrain of Spain. The colorful swirling endpapers seem to recapitulate the motif of the binding. The title, author and date are stamped in gilt on the spine. The front panel of the original cover has been bound in, at the rear. A beautifully conceived and executed example of the binder s art. And, a fitting tribute to this monumental work. A beautiful copy. (We can send pictures. A nice photo is also available on our binder s website: Bookseller Inventory # ABE-868924252
