AN OUTSTANDING LETTER, DISCUSSING THE COMPLETION OF HIS WORK ON "THE RECOGNITIONS". Gaddis opens with reference to Haygood's imminent visit to New York (a visit which was to have such a profound impact on Gaddis' career). ".after delivering my 10-pound MS. To Harcourt Brace. now, except for the prospect of the galleys in June, it's no longer my problem. & you may imagine the vacuum of bereavement I'm in. Hardly an idea of what to do with myself." Presaging what was shortly to be a pivotal shift in Gaddis' career, he closes: "Here everything is so much the same that it is difficult to sit still". Superb Original Typed Letter Signed January 4, 1954 to fellow traveler and author William Haygood. Gaddis opens with discussion of Haygood's imminent visit to New York, and details of the possibilities of where he will be when Haygood arrives, which are varied and complex. William Gaddis (1922-1998), celebrated novelist, winner of two National Book Awards, was long-neglected but is now considered to be among the foremost of postwar American authors. William Haygood, author and later editor of the Wisconsin Magazine of History, was an early travel and literary associate of Gaddis. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall. Bookseller Inventory # 0773806
