About the Author:

Jack Carlson and Elizabeth Stewart are the authors of the award winning books Superstition Wilderness Trails East (a companion volume to this book) and Hiker's Guide to the Superstition Wilderness.

Jack has been hiking and exploring the Superstition Mountains since 1974. He is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S.E.E. degree in 1965. He received an M.B.A. degree in 1974 from Northern Arizona University.

In Chicago, Jack was employed with the steel industry and worked on computer automated industrial equipment. In Arizona, he worked as an electrical engineer in semiconductor manufacturing.

Jack resides in Tempe, Arizona, where he is the owner and publisher of Clear Creek Publishing. He is a member of the Superstition Mountain Historical Society.

Elizabeth has always loved the outdoors. As a child she traveled with her parents on many family vacations to the National Parks where she experienced the freedom of hiking and camping.

Elizabeth was born in San Francisco, California and spent two of her high school years in London, England. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with an A.B. degree and from the University of Arizona with a J.D. degree. She worked for the Maricopa County Attorney in the Juvenile, Criminal, and Civil Divisions and as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona in the Civil Division.

Elizabeth served a six-year term on the Arizona State Parks Board, including a year as chairman. She is a member of the Arizona History Convention Board, the McFarland State Park Advisory Committee, The Anza Trail Foundation Board, and the Partnership for the National Trails System Board. She resides in Tempe, Arizona.
