About this Item

Quarto-oversized-softcover in light green printed wraps. Trial transcript published 1884.Very Good/: covers exhibit some edgewear and moderate soiling from routine handling; court stamp dated Feb. 14,1884 on top right edge front cover; attorney notation in ink at bottom of front cover; spine worn with 2" chip along bottom edge/side and numbered in ink. Text itself generally clean & bright but with sporadic notations in ink by attorneys. Index. 276pp. Transcript of California Court of Appeals case involving a property dispute in Yolo County, California in 1883. The plaintiff in the case was W.W. Brown and the defendant, C.E. Greene. Attorneys for the plaintiff were the distinguished San Francisco firm of Flournoy, Mhoon,& Flournoy; the defendant's counsel was prominent attorneys J.H McKune & A.P. Catlin, also of San Francisco. The transcript not only is a record of the case itself, but is also a look into early California history with its description of Vaca & Pena land grants bestowed by Governor Pio Pico in 1845 in Yolo County and other historical references. Copy was likely from the law office of McKune & Catlin as their handwritten notations are on the front cover and sporadically throughout. An unusual and fascinating piece of California legal history. #120013. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-11700162500
