Item description from seller

Hand drawn surveyor's map. Laid paper measuring 12" x 22¾". About good with creases from being folded, tears at the edges, and some small losses along the main vertical crease with two larger losses at the top. A survey for a parcel of land along the "Prince Maurice River" in what is now Cumberland County, New Jersey. The survey was commissioned by the "President and Director of the Farmers Bank of New Jersey" in December 1820 for what appears to have been land owned or purchased by David Read. The writing on the map is clear though written in a minute hand which, among other details, lists: "Pubic road from Millvill to Bridg Town." The margins include a note about Read at the top, a column of number to the lower right of "Calculation on the several lotts," as well as a qualifying note below: "The above calculations made on a supposition the timber standing to be worth one dollar per cord." An interesting early 19th Century survey of Cumberland County during his transition from a throughway for travelers headed to Cap May to an increasing settled area of Southern New Jersey.…
