Synopsis: As a Jewish youth in Europe, Ludwig Muhlfelder experienced first-hand the repression and terror imposed by the Nazi regime. Emigrating as a teenager after the start of World War II, he was young enough to have been spared Nazi arrest but old enough to clearly remember the Holocaust.
Muhlfelder's immigration to the United States was soon followed by military service and precarious existence in Europe. After the war, he was granted the oppportunity to build a new life with a family and a successful career in the evolving space field. His life, which evil had intended to extinguish, blossomed forth with accomplishment, love, and appreciation.
The author reflects on major aspects of his journey - the concept of God, the role of perpetrators and bystanders in the Holocaust, the continuity of the Jewish people, and the impact of the scientific revolution - seeking to inspire others to remember the past with a commitment to the future.
About the Author: Ludwig Muhlfelder immigrated to the United States after the start of World War II, and served as a non-citizen in the U.S. army.
After the war, Muhlfelder received a degree in engineering and spent three decades working in development of satellite control and stabilization. He was awarded 16 U.S. patents.
Ludwig Muhlfelder has lived with his wife, Beatrice, in Livingston, NJ since 1956. He has traveled widely, and is a frequent lecturer on his early experiences.
