This 1773 bible was in the possession of Susan (Susannah) S. Austin who was residing in Cambridge, Mass. in at least 1819-1820. She has inscribed her name on the frontpaper and the date of 1840 on the inner cover. The bible is 8 inches by 10-1/4 inches and is 3 inches thick. Bound in full, period calf with both worn covers detached. The spine ends are worn and some pages are missing. Some pages are edge chipped and have been hand-stitched to keep together. A label on the back inner cover reads - "This bible is the property of the heirs of Martha (Frost) Kuhn, George Kuhn Clarke, 36 Lancaster St. Cambridge, Representative 1905". Also included with the bible is a 24 page, 6 by 7 inch booklet without covers. It is in the manuscript hand of Susan Austin and consists of sermons of a few ministers and some of, what I think is, her own poetry. She has dated some of the entries in 1819 and 1820 in Cambridge. Done in a very neat hand, the pages have loosened from the stitching. There is edge wear and some staining and ink blotting to the pages. This was found inserted in the bible. Bookseller Inventory #
