About this Item

1st. edition, fine in light red/brown cloth boards with black printing on the spine. Page edges and endpapers very lightly browned and foxed. Maps of South Carolina on endpapers. Price clipped pictorial dust jacket is soiled, edgeworn and chipped with a few short tears. Biography of Francis Marion that chronicles his life and times, particularly during the period of the American Revolution. Not only a general of importance, but a wiley gurrilla leader, he eluded the British in the woods and bodlands of South Carolina so long and so cleverly that he was christened "Swamp Fox" by General Tarleton the baffled Redcoat commander.
